First and foremost, Michael Burwell takes pride in holding more than what is needed when it comes to academic qualifications. Michael, as often referred by many, is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Michael also schooled at Michigan State University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration (distinction) in 1986.


Immediately after graduation, Michael joined the business world and got his first job at Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) in Detroit. Michael was assigned to the Quality Assurance department. However, his contribution to the business has remained vital for not only the department but also the whole company. Michael is renowned for his ability to adapt to different environments and persistent when it comes to achieving a given goal. Often, Michael says that his key to success is his ability to take every opportunity as a learning opportunity.


For the first one decade after employment with PwC, Michael worked as an accountant. As an accountant, Michael was expected to work as an auditor for PwC clients. His effort and contribution to the company could never go unnoticed. In ’97, Michael was promoted to head the Detroit-based dealings of the company.


For those who have had the chance to work closely with Michael, he is known to be an individual who believes in the price of teamwork when it comes to taking a company to another level. After four years of service, the talented accountant was to manage the Midwest transactions. In 2005, Michael saw himself crowned the leader of Pwc’s operation in the entire U.S.A.


After three years of excellent service and progress, Michael got promoted to an executive position. He was named as the company’s chief financial officer (CFO) and later made the company’s chief operating officer (COO). As many would say, Michael’s career is the exact definition of what career success means. About six years ago, the company named Michael as the Global and U.S. Transformation Leader. Under his tenure, Pricewaterhouse Coopers has been experiencing incredible growth as it is evident from the astonishing rise in revenue. After quitting PwC, Michael was appointed as a CFO of Willis Towers Watson, a publicly trade global advisor that also operates as a broking company. While away from the office, Michael is a resourceful individual to the community. Michael seats on the board of directors of the Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Center based in Detroit.
